Some cold-pressed or macerated oils — especially those rich in saturated fatty acids or with a heavier texture — can have an occlusive effect on the skin. This doesn't mean they are comedogenic or harmful, but on certain skin types (such as oily, acne-prone, or porous skin), they may create the sensation of congested pores if not used properly.
At Azara Natural, the oils with a higher tendency to clog pores if overused or applied incorrectly include:
Cold-pressed coconut oil
Avocado oil
Castor oil
These oils are incredibly nourishing, soothing, and healing. However, their use must be tailored to each skin type and moment of the day for optimal results.
At Azara Natural, our blends are thoughtfully formulated to balance rich oils with fast-absorbing carriers. Here’s how to enjoy them without overwhelming your skin:
🔹 Always apply on damp skin
Use your hydrosol or floral water (included in each box of Azara Blends) before the oil. This helps the oil absorb deeper instead of sitting on the surface.
🔹 Combine with dry-touch, fast-absorbing oils
Our formulas made by mixing heavy oils with light oils with the right percentages— which help "carry" denser oils into the skin without leaving residue.
🔹 Apply in the evening if your skin is oily or acne-prone
At night, the skin goes into repair mode. A light layer of oil can nourish and heal without interference from external factors.
🔹 Gently exfoliate or cleanse once or twice a week
Use a natural soap and a soft cloth or sponge to prevent buildup, especially if you wear makeup or live in an urban environment.
🔹 Use small amounts — less is more
Our oils are concentrated 100% natural unrefined or deliutions. Just 3–5 drops are enough for your face, neck, and décolletage. Overusing can lead to buildup even with lighter oils.
At the moment, we ship only to countries within the European Union for individual orders placed through our website.

Your skin renews itself in cycles. For facial skin, people often reference around 28 days for a full renewal cycle, and body skin can be slower depending on the area, age, and climate. That’s why I usually evaluate results over one full cycle, not a few days.
High-quality unrefined oils don’t “force” the skin to renew faster like strong actives do. What they can do is support the skin barrier—helping the skin stay calm, reduce water loss, and maintain a healthier environment so the natural renewal cycle works better.
In the first 2–4 weeks, some people notice temporary changes such as dryness, tightness, small bumps, or breakouts. This isn’t automatically a “detox” or “cleansing phase.” Often it means one of these is happening: you’re using too much oil, the oil doesn’t suit your skin type, your skin barrier was already compromised, or the routine needs simplification.
My rule is simple: if irritation, worsening acne, or discomfort continues beyond 2–3 weeks, or feels intense, I adjust the routine rather than pushing through. Skin responds best to consistency, quality, and the right amount.
It can happen, especially in the first couple of weeks. One important detail: dry skin (lack of oil) and dehydrated skin (lack of water) are not the same thing. Tightness after washing often points to dehydration and a stressed barrier, not that you “need more oil.”
Oils can help protect the barrier, but they don’t replace water-based hydration. If your skin feels tight, I usually adjust three things: amount (often you’re using too much), timing (oil over slightly damp skin), and simplicity (fewer products, gentler cleansing).
If dryness becomes burning, stinging, or visible irritation, I don’t push through — I simplify and reassess.
Sometimes you’ll see temporary changes in the first one skin cycle (around 28 days for many people, sometimes longer).
But I’m careful with the word “purge.” True purging is usually linked to ingredients that increase cell turnover (like retinoids and exfoliating acids). Oils don’t usually work that way. SELF+1
With oils, breakouts are more often due to: using too much, layering too many products, an oil that doesn’t suit your skin, or a barrier that was already stressed.
My rule:
If you get a few small bumps and your skin otherwise feels calmer: we adjust the routine and watch.
If acne worsens steadily, feels inflamed/itchy, or persists beyond 3 weeks without improvement: I stop blaming “cleansing” and I change the approach.
Cold-pressed oils keep more of the plant’s naturally occurring compounds. Refining (heat/processing) tends to remove scent/color and can reduce those minor compounds. In practice, cold-pressed feels more “alive” on skin, while refined feels more neutral and stable.
Because essential oils are highly concentrated aromatic extracts and their composition varies; proper identification needs GC/GC-MS analysis, which is expensive and uncommon in everyday commercial supply chains. For topical care, I prefer the safer, traceable path: cold-pressed and well-macerated unrefined oils. (Aromatherapy is a different category.)
I evaluate oils over one full renewal cycle: about 28–40 days for many adults (and often slower with age and stress).
Oils don’t “force” renewal like strong actives, but research suggests certain vegetable oils / fatty-acid profiles can support cell behaviors involved in repair. Real-life results come from barrier support + consistency.
I don’t promise “speed.” What I say precisely: good unrefined oils can support regeneration conditions (barrier lipids, comfort, reduced water loss), and some studies show effects on cell proliferation/recovery markers.
That’s supportive — not a forced acceleration like retinoids.
Often it’s dehydration + barrier stress, or too much oil on top of a stripped routine. Dermatologists commonly separate dry (oil lack) from dehydrated (water lack). Tightness after cleansing is a classic dehydration sign.
Fix is usually: gentler cleanse, fewer steps, oil on damp skin, correct quantity.
Purging is mainly associated with turnover-accelerating actives (retinoids, acids).
With oils, breakouts more often mean mismatch (oil type/amount/routine). If it keeps worsening past a couple of weeks, I treat it as a reaction, not a detox story.
The comedogenic scale is a rough guide, not a law. Individual response and formulation/routine matter. But as a practical pattern: skin prone to congestion often does better with lighter, linoleic-leaning oils; some people clog more easily with heavier choices. Also, even “good” oils clog if you apply too much or don’t cleanse well.
Rancidity often shows as an off smell (sour/pungent), texture change, or odd cloudiness depending on the oil. Oxidation risk is real, especially for more delicate oils — so storage matters.
I treat freshness like food: if it smells wrong, I don’t negotiate.
Keep them away from light, heat, and oxygen. Close caps tightly. Smaller bottles help reduce oxidation exposure.
Often yes — but carefully. Start with a small amount, patch test, and keep the routine simple. If irritation appears (burning, swelling, persistent redness), stop and reassess; don’t force it. Guidance on distinguishing irritation vs normal adjustment is well discussed in derm-led explanations of purging vs breakout.
