Botanical origin
Sweet almond oil (Prunus amygdalus dulcis) is the most widely used carrier oil in professional aromatherapy and massage across Europe — and for good reason. Its oleic-dominant fatty acid profile (70% oleic acid) makes it deeply nourishing and easily absorbed by all skin types, without the heaviness of thicker oils or the excessive lightness of dry oils. It is hypoallergenic — making it appropriate for even the most sensitive skin, including baby skin — and its neutral, slightly sweet aroma makes it the ideal partner for any botanical oil, essential oil or skincare ritual without competing with other aromatic notes. Cold-pressed from sweet almond seeds, Azara Natural's oil preserves the full vitamin E, oleic acid and phytosterol content intact.

Science
The dominant fatty acid in sweet almond oil — oleic acid makes up approximately 70% of its fatty acid profile. Oleic acid is an excellent skin penetration enhancer that delivers deep nourishment to the epidermis and facilitates the absorption of other active compounds applied with or after it. It is also a key component of the skin's own sebum.
An essential omega-6 fatty acid that supports the skin's barrier integrity and ceramide production. Linoleic acid's presence in sweet almond oil contributes to its ability to maintain skin hydration and support the barrier function of sensitive or dry skin.
Sweet almond oil is one of the richest plant oil sources of natural vitamin E. Tocopherols provide powerful antioxidant protection against free radical damage, support the stability of the oil itself, and protect skin cell membranes against oxidative stress during environmental exposure.
Plant sterols naturally present in sweet almond oil provide gentle soothing and anti-inflammatory properties. Phytosterols are structurally similar to cholesterol and integrate naturally into the skin's lipid barrier, supporting moisture retention and skin comfort.
Application
Apply 3–6 drops to dry skin and massage for 30–60 seconds, including the eye area. Wipe with a warm damp cloth. Follow with a gentle cleanser for a thorough double cleanse. Sweet almond oil dissolves oil-based and waterproof makeup without harsh surfactants.
Apply 2–3 drops on slightly damp skin after toner. Massage upward with gentle circular motions. For gua sha: apply 4–8 drops for excellent slip. The neutral aroma makes it ideal for facial massage rituals when you want the technique to be the focus.
Sweet almond oil is the professional standard for essential oil dilution. For face leave-on: 1 drop essential oil per 5 ml almond oil (1%). For body leave-on: 2 drops per 5 ml (2%). For massage: mix with Azara botanical oils to create personalised blends.
Ritual combinations
Sweet almond oil is the ideal base for frankincense facial rituals — its oleic acid penetration-enhancing properties facilitate the delivery of boswellic acids into the skin, and its neutral aroma allows frankincense's balsamic character to shine through as the aromatic focus.

Its oleic-dominant profile, hypoallergenic nature and neutral aroma make it appropriate for dry, sensitive, combination, mature and even baby skin. For facial use (leave-on): mix 1 drop of the Azara botanical oil per 5 ml of sweet almond oil (1% dilution). For body massage: 2 drops per 5 ml (2%). You can create personalised blends by combining multiple Azara oils in sweet almond base — it is chemically compatible with all botanical oil types.
Sweet almond oil has a low-to-moderate comedogenicity rating. It is well tolerated by most skin types. For very oily or acne-prone skin, apply a patch test first and monitor for 1–2 weeks before making it part of your daily routine. As a makeup remover (always followed by a cleanser), it does not leave residue that would contribute to pore congestion.
